About the Lab

The Kratimenos Lab studies how premature birth disrupts brain development — especially the cerebellum — and drives lifelong neurodevelopmental problems. We take a translational approach, pairing human neonatal data with mouse models to map the cellular and molecular damage caused by prematurity and to test therapies like physiotherapy and enrichment. Our work also reaches into NEC and SIDS, two of prematurity's most serious complications.

  • Defining the Metabolic and Immune Profile Abnormalities in Human Preterm Cerebellum

    We use a multidisciplinary approach to uncover the metabolic and immune changes prematurity causes in the developing human cerebellum. By pairing Children's National's expertise in neonatal brain injury and neuropathology with Johns Hopkins' strengths in spatial transcriptomics and neuroimmunology, we're defining the cellular damage behind preterm brain injury.
